IKI is set in Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868). Edo was the name of Tokyo during this period. The busiest market in the city was located in the Nihonbashi area. Along Nihonbashi's main street, many shopkeepers from different industries established their stores and kept inviting customers to do business. Nearby, living in houses called Nagayas, artisans and merchants with different skills helped to support the common people of Edo: lantern makers, tatami makers, peddlers, tempura sellers, geishas…
